Since 1989, Joel has developed a proven process that helps his clients to organize and coordinate their financial affairs, pursue their goals and live a higher quality of life. His hard work and dedication has earned him numerous industry service and excellence awards, including being named by San Diego Magazine as a 2012 “FIVE STAR” Personal Wealth Manager. Joel has also been featured in the Ramona Sentinel, North County Times, Poway News Chieftain and on KSDO AM-600 Radio.
Joel majored in business at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and has studied extensively to become a licensed fee-based financial planner. He is a faithful member of the Financial Planning Association and Kingdom Advisors, and has submitted to a full background investigation through Advisor Check™. Joel fully supports the Certified Financial Planner™ educational program, and has achieved the highest level of education and training in the discipline of Values-Based Financial Planning™.
Joel grew up in a faith-based Minnesota family that emphasized hard work and higher education. His father James owned and operated two successful businesses after serving in World War II, and his mother Marillyn achieved a Masters degree while working as a full-time nurse and raising the family. Joel followed his parent’s work ethic, working full-time during the frigid northern Minnesota winters as an overhead line technician while attending college.
After college and business management training, Joel came to Southern California where he began to develop his financial services career—and met the woman who would become his wife. Joel met Cecelia on a blind date on his 30th birthday in 1990 and they married 6 months later. Today they live in the semi-rural San Diego community of Ramona, California.
Church and community service are very important to Joel. He serves as an elder at Calvary Chapel of Ramona and is a member of the church board of directors. His ministry passions include Bible teaching in local churches, conducting Christian life planning workshops, and counseling individuals, families and groups regarding Biblical financial principles. Joel also serves as Membership Co-Chair and Charitable Foundation board trustee for the Rotary Club of Escondido, and was named “rookie of the year” in 2008 for his dedicated club service. In his leisure time Joel enjoys travel, Cross Fit, snow skiing, scuba diving and spending time with his family.
Joel’s personal mission is to inspire people to make healthy, meaningful progress in their spiritual, financial and personal lives. To help fulfill this mission, he conducts numerous educational workshops in the community each year on topics ranging from personal financial planning, life transition preparedness, personal life planning, legacy development and Biblical money management. Joel also makes himself available on a limited complementary basis to speak to local churches and organizations on these issues.
